The Lost & Found Generation

I spend time wondering what exactly has happened to my generation and what will come about from us in the next decade. Just within my lifetime, the American culture has gotten a major facelift. Besides the obvious generation change, all of the culture change has crafted something new and dangerous.

For starters, what happened to the clothing that people wear? I understand that people do not want to dress like their parents did, or dress up because that is for the business world. But really, since when did yoga pants and sleeve-less shirts become acceptable to wear beyond the yoga mats and the gym? And that is not even the worst of it.  My generation is embracing trends that are going to result in a cascade of scandalous clothing options. The worst part about this is that the only people that you can blame for this are the people that wear the clothing (or lack of most of the time).

Another thing about my generation that I can't stand is the dependence on material goods (I am an offender here, but not as bad as I'm going to be talking about). If you don't have a Facebook nowadays you are looked upon as a social outcast. And if you don't have a cell phone, you're a hermit. I still remember the days when I would have to call up someones house and as if they were home, or even take the time out of my day to visit in person. Nowadays people just text and I.M. the person they want to see. People need to learn how to unplug their lives and live in the world that is around them, instead of the world that was created within the realms of the internet (I am not innocent here, so don't feel like I don't know this).

This leads to my next discrepancy; the lack of depth in conversations nowadays is disturbing. Once people were given the ability to "talk" to more than one person at a time, the depth of the conversations went from an Olympic swimming pool to a kiddy pool. And like the kiddy [pool, the conversation is usually full of crap. Not only that, it seems like some people have entirely lost their entire capability to have an intellectual conversation (and some even an actual conversation at all). I guess this is why I picked up this blog.

Enough of the bad of my peers and myself. Our generation has accomplished some major milestones in the history of this nation, and this world. We have made use of technology and have become a singular community concerned for everyone, regardless of their race, age, sex, sexual preference, and their geographical location. We have worked to tear down the walls of segregation that our ancestors grew up with. I believe that once we start to take more government positions that this nation will finally fully catch up with Human Rights.

So in the end, I just really hope that we don't seriously mess things up for our offspring (much like the last few generations thought it would be fun to do).
